The Gazzman, Gary Simpson, a fellow student of Alex Jeffreys tagged me to post 25 things about myself. Here they are…like it or not:
Rod Macbeth
1) Was Born in 1955 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
2) Has lived here all of my life save for ten years spent in Richmond, BC when the job market took a nose dive.
3) is a Gemini.
4) Has spent 34 years as an electrician. Due to a repetitive rotator cuff injury, arthritis and a small tendon tear in my right shoulder I’m no longer really able to work in my trade any longer. This is largely behind my decision to pursue Internet Marketing full time. Although, after 34 years, I’m ready for a change.
5) Used to smoke but quit eight years ago.
6) Used to be a heavy drinker. Quit that nonsense twenty-two years ago. The single best thing I’ve ever done.
7) Has had Type II diabetes for six years. It’s the type controlled by pills and diet, not insulin. Thank goodness for that. I may have got it due to my drinking as none of the usual factors like being overweight or having a family history of diabetes applies to me.
8 ) Used to play the bagpipes and was the pipe major of a Pipe and Drums band. No, I won’t tell you what a Scotsman wears under his kilt. That’s for you to find out at your own risk… which is considerably less risky for the ladies.
9) Used to play the drums in a heavy rock and roll band.
10) Is a headbanger.
11) Enjoys all types of music with a few exceptions.
12) Doesn’t watch TV…hasn’t for fifteen years.
13) Is not into sports. Used to be but got tired of listening to inane colour commentators and supporting huge salaries for playing a game.
14) Has been a computer addict since getting his first one.
15) Has been surfing the internet since before most people knew it existed or what it was.
16) Plays “World of Warcraft” extensively and is the Guildmaster of a successful guild and moderator of probably the largest WoW related forums save for Blizzard’s official forums.
17) Has a dry, sarcastic sense of humour.
18) Loves animals of all types…well snakes maybe not so much.
19) Has no real desire for material things beyond the necessities. Excluding the best computer I can afford.
20) Has no driving desire to be wealthy but does buy lottery tickets.
21) Has a very low tolerance for having to repeat himself.
22) Loves the old Clint Eastwood and James Bond movies.
23) Has read “Lord of the Rings” several times…so many I’ve lost count.
24) Favourite song is Led Zeppelins’ “Stairway to Heaven”. Do you know how they got their name? Eric Clapton remarked to the band members that they’d go over like a lead balloon.
25) Dislikes traveling. Would like to have his own “Scotty” to beam him to exotic locales and beam him home again…along with his own bed and computer system.
I tag:
Gary Simpson to come up with another 25 …<Evil Cackle>

Hey Rod
Some great things about you there, hey when you was a rocker did you have long hair? Man I went to see guns and roses back in 92 I think it was, I like many rock bands including Judas priest and well I love maiden favourite song hallowed be thy name.
Mellowed out now like oasis and kasabian.
well done for giving up smoking single hardest thing to do I think, but I cant kick the drink.
hey mate its cool finding out all this stuff about the students.

Hi Marcus,
My hair was down to my belt
I didn’t find quitting smoking or drinking to be hard…once I decided to. I thought about quitting both for some time before finally taking action. Both times it was laying in bed and saying…”Enough bullshit, tomorrow I’m quitting”…and I did.
Cheers,
Rod
Finally!
Well Rod, interesting.
#1 – PM’d you on the forum about that.
#4 – done both of mine many times in my chosen “sport” but had both surgically repaired. Last time I performed 330,000 reps to get the mobility back.
#10 – hmm. Slade?
#16 – Crikey Moses! I CANNOT get my son OFF that bloody useless game! I used to play Diablo but I killed him – AND his evil twin, several times.
#20 is a contradiction if I’ve ever seen one.
Rod, if you think I’m gonna do another 25 then FORGET IT! My 1st lot were a massive over-share.
OK. I’ll mark you off as MISSION COMPLETE in the forum.

Hi Gary,
Depends on how you view #20…to me winning the lottery would secure my retirement instead of where I am now. Working until I’m who knows.
I really don’t see my lifestyle changing were I to win it. The money would be invested and I’d live off the interest and reinvest what I didn’t use. Depending on the amount won…one ticket I buy offers a winning of $1,000,000 and the interest would support me but not much more and the other can get you several million….I’d either actively support my favourite charities and/or donate the principle upon meeting my maker.
The tear in my tendon is too small for surgery. I suppose if I really wanted to continue working as an electrician I could but, as I mentioned, I’ve had enough of it and I really do not want to tear it more and face surgery.
Don’t blame you on not doing another 25…didn’t really expect you to…just pulling your chain a tad.
Cheers,
Rod
Hey Rod
Your 25 was well worth waiting for. Enjoyed finding out a little more about you. Glad # 7 is not knocking you down. As you I buy Lottery tickets, this way I can work at the computer without having to worry about the bills, and there are so many really good causes which could do more with a little extra funding. About music, agree with your picks, don’t understand bagpipes much understand kilts even less. Get with Steve regarding the head banging but don’t get as carried away as he did. Keep having fun

Hey Rod,
Popped over to read your list.
Quite a mixture in there, a head banging, world of warcraft playing piper. Tell me, is there any better kind?
Nice one Rod. And I’m not telling what I wear under my kilt either. Depends on the weather!

Hi Rod,
Great list
Congrats on #5&6 Good for you!
I am with you on #14, #15, #17, #19,
Re # 17, usually the more perturbed or anxious I get the more sarcastic I get.
#23 First time I read the books (all 4) was over a 2 week period. I liked the movies as ell.
Take care, it seems you and I have a lot in common.

Hi Rod,
#23 – agreed as I’ve lost count as well. But I’m one of “those” who likes the movie version as well!
#24 – never knew that. How’d that criticism work out for Robert Plant / Jimmy Page?
#25 – when I was 8 or 9, I thought for sure we’d have a Jetson’s machine by now…but, alas, I’m still waiting….
#20 – my favorite of the 25!

Hi Rod,
Another Albertan from Medicine Hat.
Great post and thanks for sharing. I have to agree with #24, it’s very hard to find good music now a days. For #25 if “Scotty” beams you to exotic locations do you thing you can pick me up from the airport??? I will bring the computer, not sure about the bed though…
Take Care

Hey Rod,
I remember the first time I moved to Edmonton, about 20 years ago. Never seen so many pickup trucks in my life.
Great time though… Oil rig workers are a bit crazy, but the girls love em.
And Richmond is where my auntie lives.
Got to get back soon.
Ever done a burger run to Calgary.
Talk soon,
Rob

I used to be a headbanger, had the hair and insatiable energy for it. Went to 2 concerts in the same night one time, woke up the next day realizing there’s a “technique” to headbanging which must be adhered to, if one wishes to retain full use of their neck the next morning. That’s all I’m going to say for now because you’ve tagged me, don’t want to give too much away just yet. Great post, thanks for sharing

Hey Rod,
I’m pretty sure we’d get on like a house on fire!
I fully agree with 19 and happy to watch practically anything with Clint Eastwood in, or that he’s directed – seen Unforgiven about as many times as you’ve read Lord of the Rings.
BTW – To all those reading and wondering, a real Scotsman wears nothing under his kilt.
Cheers Rod,
Andrew.

Hi Rod,
I thought I was the only one that didn’t watch TV. And wow, 15 years. I just gave it up about a year ago.
I moved on to the internet now, too. Just bought another new computer, we have five of them in our house now.
Congratulations on quitting smoking, that and dropping 15lbs seems to be the two things that I can’t seem to do.
Take care Rod,
Karen
Hi Rod,
Just to let you know that I commented on your 25 points on September 08, 2009.
Well, somehow it got lost so I’ll do a shorter version this time and save my energy in case it doesn’t work again.
I’m glad you quit smoking 8 years ago, I quit cold turkey many more moons ago too. What a nasty habit that was.
Some similarity with you regarding job. You were electrician for 34 years. I was working as electronics technician for about 5 years. I could do it OK but it wasn’t my hobby so I moved on.
You played bagpipes and drums I play the guitar. I even took violin lessons and did well but moved away and never took it up again.
I like animals too but snakes are an acquired taste for most people I think and I haven’t acquired it yet.
Many more point where we are close but won’t comment on all of them.
Good post an nice to learn more about you.
