The week started out well with me actually managing to put a reasonable plan forth and set some goals to reach. Unfortunately, the best laid plans of aspiring Internet Marketers don’t always work out. The transfer of my website took longer then expected and, as a result, I’ll probably only be doing this one post instead of the two minimum I had planned. When it finally did get transferred over FireFox crapped out on me and I had to mess with it. Tried Google Chrome to see if it might be a viable replacement but nuked it right quick. It’s a way too limited for my tastes and needs. I then moved on to IE to see if there was any improvements but there wasn’t so I decided to spend some time to get FireFox back the way it should be. That ended up in me uninstalling all of it and reinstalling. Unless, I’m going blind, which is entirely possible, there’s no longer an option in FireFox to clear your cache which I think is where the problem was as I flushed all of my cookies and that didn’t solve the problem. But it’s back up and running until the next time this happens which seems to be all too frequently.
Then my outsourcing didn’t pan out as expected. Some of it is taking longer then I’d hoped, which is fine. I’d sooner see the time being spent to put out a good finished product then rush it and get something that’s second rate. The results from the three outsourcing sites I used, ELance, GetaFreelancer and oDesk Outsourcing, for one project have left a bit to be desired. Interestingly enough, eLance has provided the smallest response of the three. Several providers have asked for a deposit and I was wondering what you folks reading this think of that. It’s nothing major, rewriting existing copywriting, so I personally feel that a deposit is unwarranted but I’m new to all this and could use the views of others.
It’s not all doom and gloom though. I’ve learned lots, and that in itself makes for a successful week, and I did get a few smaller items out of the way. One super thing that happened is I got a personal taste of the awesome support that Alex Jeffreys students are providing for everyone. I was wondering what a fair price would be for the outsourcing of a project and figured I’d see if Twitter would provide an answer. To no surprise it didn’t but one of my fellow students shot me a direct message and he is now having a look at it. I’m not going to mention his name as it involves something he’s really not interested in doing any longer but to say I appreciate this is a huge understatement. It’s kind of getting down to crunch time with me and getting this product out is pretty important. So having someone offering to help, and especially with something they’d prefer not to be doing, out of the blue like this is really awesome and so greatly appreciated.
I’ve expressed a couple of times in the forums how I think we have such a great community already but this really brings it home. While Alex Jeffreys course in itself is providing great value I really feel that the community that’s been built around the course and him may very well prove to be the biggest thing of it all. The future looks bright.

Great “real” post Rod.
I sure can relate to the specifics you share in your post, in fact I just made a similar one on my own blog.
Must agree with you that we each are in good company cheering each other on as part of Alex’s mentorship.
Glad to learn of your blog.
All the best to you and yours from us in Norway.

The road in the picture is in Norway. I’ll head over now and have a look at your post.

Hi Rod,
Great post! I’m glad you managed to get your firefox problem sorted!
I have used rentacoder in the past, and was expected to pay the money into Escrow. The funds are not released to the programmer until you sign off the work. I think that is normal practice as it proves you have the funds to pay.
If there are any discrepancies, they can look into it for you before any monies are released so you never (hopefully) lose out!
Speak soon,
Paul

Escrow I can see to a point, I’d be looking at the scope of work however, but some of these supposed copywriters are asking for 50% up front, some as little as 10%. I say supposed because, from reading their promos, the better part of them just have a background in writing which doesn’t necessarily translate into doing good copywriting. I just can’t see paying a deposit to end up with sub-par work. The trick of course is to find one you like and stick with him/her.

First time I’ve gotten around to visiting your blog. I have been trying to do 4 to 6 a day. I like your blogs look very professional.
Sorry about all your trouble with IP’s or whatever. I was using Firefox browser for awhile, still have it but don’t use it much because it is so dog-gone slow. Maybe it’s just my computer. I know I could stand some more memory.
Anyway just stopped by to say Hi. I see a lot of your posts in the forums and noticed you offer a lot of help to a lot of people. That is much appreciated.
Hang in there and keep up the good work.

Hi Norm,
Thanks for dropping by and thanks for the nice comments.
Hi Rod,
I was just surfing around and come across your site. It looks great, I wish mine was as good as yours. Anyway I was tweaking my blog yesterday and similar to firefox messed in up big time. I think I am going to have to start from scratch, them’s the brakes.
I have been using a simple free program to clean up my computer, it is called “ccleaner” and can be downloaded from http://www.download.com. Great program, I personally have been using it for years and even have it installed on my kids computers as well. You can image the junk they get into.
Also some of the programs I run on a daily basis create a lot of junk files. A couple of clicks using ccleaner and I am back up and running.
Check it out, and if you have any questions let me know.
