The Key To Life

When I was five years old, my mother told me that happiness was the key to life.

When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be.

I wrote down “Happy”.

They told me I didn’t understand the assignment.

I told them they didn’t understand life.

That’s a cool message Rod. Thanks!!

It’s off topic but another 5 year old said something recently that made me smile too:

she was really excited about Christmas because it’s “Santa’s Birthday!” :-)

    Hi Rod,

That story is a good example where adults should be pupils and kids teachers.

Aside from being immature and all that children can have a lot of simple wisdom.

In grade four while school teacher was doing her talking a couple of schoolmates including me started to goggle at something which I don’t remember what it was.

Knowing we shouldn’t laugh during class only supported the urge to do so and some muffled laughter escaped from us.

The teacher focused her attention on me and ordered me to kneel in front of the class close to her desk as a punishment.

Satisfied at herself how she handled the disturbance she said loudly and victoriously for everyone to hear: “And now you can laugh”.

Being still in a happy and laughing mood I obliged and bursted out laughing at the top of my lungs. That infused laughter to the whole class and everybody was laughing with me.

This enraged the teacher who evicted me out of the classroom to the corridor.

I still chuckled there for a few minutes wondering why the teacher got so upset when did what she invited me to do.

    Vance…you trouble maker you :)

    Just kidding.

Great story. Too bad the teacher didn’t laugh along with you. Sounds like she could have used a good laugh.

    That’s great, Tamahome…hope it helped. :)

    Hey Rod!

Great post!! Sometimes things really are that simple, and as adults we overcomplicate things.

Definately bookmarked this and will remember it.

That’s a great little story. Thanks for sharing. I have found that happiness is a by-product of right living. Living a life inline with the highest ideals I have for myself. Loving myself and the realization that everything I need to be happy is already inside of me.

Of course that came after years of searching for happiness in external things; materialism, relationships, etc.

Found your site from your TKA profile. Nice site you got here! Keep it UP!

Thanks for dropping by, Jared. Glad you enjoyed the article.

I totally agree with what you say about living right and I think we all go through that period of materialism in our younger days. Guess it’s part of the wisdom we achieve in getting older and experiencing/learning things that help us realize there’s more important things in life then “shinies”.
